Overview

How should we practise medicine in a world where half of the world’s population live on less than US$2 a day, one billion people go to bed hungry every night, a quarter of the world’s population never gets a glass of cold water, and a woman dies in childbirth every minute? Health gaps between the rich and poor are growing, and globalisation and climate change increasingly are affecting everyone’s health.

At times, the health challenges facing communities around the world appear daunting. How can UK medical students, future ambassadors of health, “think globally and act locally” about their roles and responsibilities in improving the health of the world’s 6.6 billion people?

The Intercalated BSc in International Health is a year-long, 120 credit full-time degree for UK medical students committed to international health. The degree provides you with opportunities to explore issues of global health, health care delivery and health policy. You will develop the critical and analytical skills to assess, implement, and evaluate health and health care interventions in your future medical career. The Nuffield Centre has been teaching courses in international health and development for over 30 years, and has established a large alumni network of health managers and planners holding senior positions around the world.
