Prizes
A number of prizes are offered to University of Leeds medical students studying for an Intercalated degree.
Littlewood Prize in Anatomy
The prize was instituted in 1923 in memory of the late Colonel H Littlewood, formerly professor of surgery in the University, who bequeathed a sum of money to provide an award in the Department of Anatomy. The prize is to the value of £500 and is awarded each year to the medical student who achieves the best performance in the intercalated BSc in Anatomy.
Pearce Prize in Neurophysiology
The prize was instituted in 1966 with a gift made to the Department of Physiology by Dr Pearce, of the City of Leeds, for the encouragement of the study of neurophysiology. The prize is to the value of £75 and is awarded to the medical student achieving the best performance in the Intercalated BSc in Neuroscience.
Willis Prize in Pathology
The Willis Prize in Pathology, to the value of £250, is awarded annually by the Senate on the recommendation of the Head of the Academic Unit of Pathology for the best performance in the intercalated course for the degree of BSc in Clinical Sciences for which a research project in pathology was undertaken.
Leeds and West Riding Medico-Chirurgical Society Intercalated Prize
The Prize will be awarded to the medical student who in the Society’s judgement submits overall the best abstract and gives the best presentation on the independent research undertaken during their intercalated degree. Students are invited to submit an abstract of their research work by September each year. Short listed students will be invited to make a short presentation at the November evening meeting of the Medico-Chirurgical Society. An invited panel will adjudicate.
Only students who are taking a MBChB degree at the University of Leeds can apply.
Only students who took their intercalated degree at the University of Leeds and started their degree in the September preceding the September submission deadline can apply.
The Prize winner will receive £100. Other presenters will receive £25.
