The Leeds Undergraduate Research Enterprise (LURE) is a unique scheme which nurtures undergraduate medical students with research ambitions to become academic clinicians. Students selected to be LURE scholars are given a bursary to conduct research during vacations. They meet monthly to review their development. Under the supervision of their academic mentor, the LURE students develop valuable skills for their future clinical posts. In return, they act as ambassadors for Leeds Medical School. The LURE scheme is made possible by generous donations and sponsorship.

Students undertake research and then disseminate their experimental findings. LURE scholars go to conferences, produce posters and submit articles for publications. They develop mentoring, leadership and enterprise skills by participation in University and charitable events. The scheme encourages students to network in the University and beyond and to form international links.
LURE Directors
The LURE scholarship scheme was devised by Professor Homer-Vanniasinkam and Dr Karen Lee, who act as Directors. The LURE Directors aim to develop links with Universities and other medical institutions throughout the world.
Professor Homer is Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. An eminent academic clinician, she acts as a role model for the LURE scholars.
