Medicine Matters first appeared in summer 1994 when Dean Monty Losowsky established the School Alumni Office for communicating with our alumni, friends and colleagues. This was the first time such an office had been created. The magazine has since appeared twice a year, normally in the New Year and at summer graduation.
The Office evolved over time into a Development and Alumni Office of four staff with various development and fund-raising functions, as well as an alumni officer whose duties included editing Medicine Matters. All the staff transferred into the University’s Alumni and Development team in late 2006. The publication of Medicine Matters remained a School responsibility.

Bill came to the Medical School in 1981 and held the position of Secretary to the School of Medicine for 26 years until my retirement in July 2007. He was closely involved in the launch of Medicine Matters in 1994 and its subsequent development and was delighted to be asked to become the fourth editor of Medicine Matters on a part-time basis after retiring from his full-time role.
