Psychometric Laboratory for Health Sciences

Introduction to Rasch Analysis

A workshop to introduce Rasch analysis This will suit those working in the measurement of outcomes in the health sciences, of attitudinal data in the social sciences, or in educational testing. It will take the form of hands-on tuition in using the Rasch Unidimensional Measurement Models ( RUMM2030 ) software package. At the end of the two-and-a-half days workshop students should understand and be able to analyse data, using RUMM2030, for:

Input of data into the RUMM2030 programme

Testing for local dependency and unidimensionality assumptions

Assessing fit to the model

Examining the category probability patterns for polytomous items

Testing the category probability for polytomous items

Examining the targeting and reliability of the scale or test

Intermediate Rasch Analysis.

This workshop will look at more advance topics using the RUMM2030 software, and will include issues of establishing item banks, Computer Adaptive Testing, cross cultural DIF and and writing a Rasch paper. Students should have completed the introductory course, or have experience with RUMM 2020/2030 software.

At the end of this workshop, students should be able to:

Establish an item bank

  • Examine strict unidimensionality

  • Examine Fit to Rasch model

  • Accommodating local dependency

  • Accommodate DIF

Test efficacy of the item bank under CAT simulation

  • For research group use

  • For Individual clinical use

Input parameter estimates into a CAT programme

Adjust estimates of patient ability for cross-cultural differences in outcome measures (to facilitate pooled data in international studies)

Write a good Rasch paper

Advanced Rasch Analysis.

This workshop will concentrate on introducing substantive methodological issues using a range of software, and will include simulation of data to address current issues of methodological concern.
For the September 2011 workshop these issues will include:

Skewed data and its implications for reliability

Simulating data to examine the effect of different levels of local dependency upon person estimates

Simulating data to examine the effect of disordered thresholds upon the interpretation of fit and unidimensionality

And will also include an update of the facilities within the RUMM2030 licence edition, including the new analysis of unidimensionality.
