Objectives
On completion of this module, students should:
* have knowledge and critical understanding of either an architectural movement or the works of a specific architect and/or theorist of the post-Mediaeval era; * have a general overview of the subject area that they have chosen; * be able to analyse and discuss specific case studies; * be able to demonstrate the ability to explore and work with an archive such as a body of critical writings, drawings, manuscripts or other sources related to the built environment.
Syllabus
This module allows students to explore in depth either an architectural movement or the works of a specific architect and/or theorist of the post-Mediaeval era. Through independent but directed study, students will engage in important themes and methodologies related to the built environment. After consultation with the module leader, students are responsible for selecting the theme of their directed study and determining the body of critical writings, drawings, manuscripts or other sources relevant to their chosen topic. At the end of the semester, students will be required to give a presentation based on their coursework.
Form of teaching
Seminars 1 x 3 hours; Tutorials 5 x 3 hours.
Form of assessment
1 x 4000-5000 word essasy.
