Objectives
To provide training in advanced reading and interpreting of written and broadcast material in Japanese and practice in handling Japanese source material.
Syllabus
In the two hours of text reading classes per week, students will be expected to read extensively from a selection of Japanese short stories, essays, poetry, critical writings, etc. The focus here will be on context comprehension and students will not be required to provide a complete translation of the texts in class. In the third session, students analyse a variety of broadcast material designed to improve their aural comprehension and communication skills in Japanese.

Form of assessment
2-hr written exam at end of Semester 1 (30%) 3-hr written exam at end of Semester 2 (40%); listening comprehension test at end of Semester 1 (10%); listening comprehension exam at the end of Semester 2 (20%).
