the conference will address issues of contemporary
and traditional popular dance musics and their roles in the wider cultural
context, focusing on perspectives from the new musicologies, cultural studies,
postmodern theory, deconstruction, post-structuralism, gender studies,
post-colonial theory, etc....
however, the aim is to provide as wide a forum
of debate as possible
all proposals, within or without the fields listed
below, are most welcome
disco, funk, rap, hip-hop, swing, rave, house,
baggy, techno, hardcore, handbag, eurocheese, trance, goa, balearic, ambient,
trip-hop, ragga, jungle, drum ‘n’ bass, skate, gabber, indie, garage
etc....
we also hope to include at least one session on
more traditional genres/practices such as:
céilidh, country, barndance, line dancing,
morris, clog, polka, ballroom, salsa, tango, flamenco, ragtime, dervishing,
rain-dance, voodoo, shamanism, dionysia
etc.....
