National Student Survey 2009

The 2009 National Student Survey (opens in a new window) has again produced excellent results for the School of Music at Leeds, placing it among the top music departments in the UK for overall satisfaction (86%), and in the top 9 institutions for the quality of our teaching (91% satisfaction), learning resources (89% satisfaction) and organisation and management (83% satisfaction).

“With innovations like the new Music Year in Industry programme coming on line from September 2010”, says Director of Learning and Teaching Dr Stephen Muir, “we are confident that students will continue to find excellent value in what we are doing, especially in the areas of personal development and academic support, to complement our already high ratings for teaching and resourcing.”

The 2010 NSS results will be revealed in September 2010, and the School of Music is confident of achieving, and even bettering, these excellent satisfaction results despite the challenging times Higher Education is going through.

Obviously, the School is not complacent. We need to sustain our effort and improve in certain other areas. University initiatives such as Leeds for Life (opens in a new window) will go a long way to address the matter of Personal Development, as will a renewed partnership with the University Careers Centre (opens in a new window) and an exciting new Peer Mentoring scheme to help new students settle into University life.
