An audio-visual piece by a doctoral composition student is attracting attention on both sides of the Atlantic A composition work by one of the department’s PhD students is attracting international interest, with a major showcase scheduled for New York this spring.
Copper Vibrations, an audio-visual piece by Karen Lauke, combines sound, image and performance and will form part of the prestigious New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival in March.
For Karen, who is in her fifth year of doctorate study, this is not the first time that Copper Vibrations has been presented. In fact there has already been some quite widespread attention shown.
In 2009, the Seeing Sound Symposium in Bath screened the work and The Jukebox in Oxford has taken an interest in the project, as well.
Now confirmation is awaited that a significant Scottish event may also include it in a February programme of sound and art pieces.
She comments: ‘Having been invited to give a live performance of Copper Vibrations in New York, I am now waiting to see if the International Soundings Festival at the Redid Concert Hall in Edinburgh could add it to their line-up, too.’
