Year in Industry students revealed

First group of Music students embark on a newly launched internship project

Five Music students are set to embark on a brand new venture for the department when they participate in the premiere Year in Industry initiative in 2010/11.

The students involved include Edd Blakeley, from the BA Popular and World Musics course, who will take an internship with a media composer, followed by a music workshop technician job.

The others, all members of the BA Music degree, are Fleur Chaffé, whose internship is with London-based WildKat PR, a classical music promotions company, Eleanor Jones, who will work with Leeds-based South Asian Arts, Nicola Irwin, who will be enaged by Camerata Ireland and Tom Lancaster, whose internship is with Grand Union Orchestra in London.

Dr. Steve Muir, who has been working on the development of this project for a couple of years in conjunction with the university's Careers Service, is pleased that it is finally in place and about to commence.

'We are delighted that five of our students are embarking on the very first Year in Industry scheme and look forward to others joining this project in the years to come. We do believe that this kind of intern experience can be of benefit to their career development in the future,' he says.
