Ollie tunes in to new radio role
A recent Popular & World Musics graduate takes on promotional post at UK's leading jazz station
Recent Popular and World Musics graduate Oliver Rosenblatt has scooped a significant role at the radio station Jazz FM in their London headquarters.
Ollie, who clinched his PWM degree in July, is Head of Jazz FM Live with a brief to organise a range of gigs that are presented under the station's name.
He explains: 'I am in charge of running and organising all the gigs, concerts and festivals, ranging from small to medium venues with jazz musicians to more mainstream performers like Bobby Womack, Candi Staton and Chaka Khan in larger venues such as Hammersmith Apollo, Shepherd's Bush Empire and the 02.'
While Ollie was in Leeds he promoted regular live gigs, building on experience he had developed from his teenage years regularly promoting jazz concerts in the capital.
He has a further challenge to develop a new Jazz FM brand called Funky Sensation, with a station-run night under that name at legendary jazz venue Ronnie Scott's and a linked CD compilation of classic funk and soul from the 1970s and 1980s.
Adds Ollie: 'I am also on the advisory team of our record labels Jazz FM records and Clifford Street records. We have recently released our first signing Eileen Hunter and are looking to expand both of these labels.'
'I am helping on the sourcing of artists for the labels as well as sharing my humble opinion!' he says. 'In addition, will also be starting a a festival next summer.'
