RAE Success for Music at Leeds
The School of Music at Leeds has achieved outstanding results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and enhanced its reputation for excellence. 65% of the research in the School was rated either 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent’. RAE 2008 assigned quality profiles for each subject rather than a single score used in previous exercises.
As a research intensive University the RAE is vitally important to us; high rankings enable us to attract funding and investment, attract the best staff and students. Our teaching programmes are underpinned by research; students have the opportunity to learn about the research process and experience how new knowledge is created.
The RAE is conducted jointly by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the Scottish Funding Council (SFC), the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) and the Department for Employment and Learning, Northern Ireland (DEL) and is a mechanism for evaluating quality of research in UK higher education.
