Research Seminars
The School balances musical studies of performance, composition & critical & historical studies, with developing areas such as popular music, world musics & music technology.
The School of Music hosts a wide-ranging programme of research seminars throughout the academic year, featuring invited guest speakers and staff from within the School presenting material arising from current research projects. The Music Research Seminars are open to staff and students from across the University, and also form part of the curriculum for postgraduates enrolled on the MUSI5060M Introduction to Musical Scholarship modulels.
The research seminar programme addresses four distinctive research themes:
- composition and technology
- music and social sciences research: anthropology, psychology, sociology
- new approaches to music history
- performance: analysis, history, pedagogy, practice
