Princess Kako of Akishino, the 23-year-old granddaughter of Japanese Emperor Akihito, has completed her year as an exchange student at the University of Leeds.

The Princess enrolled at the University in September 2017 as part of Leeds’ study abroad programme, and now returns to Japan to finish her undergraduate degree at International Christian University.

The University of Leeds’ study abroad programme enables students to spend time studying at a leading UK university during their undergraduate degree.

All exchange and study abroad students are taught by academic experts in their field, alongside UK and international students who are studying for a full undergraduate degree at Leeds.

Informed by the latest research, the University offers an extensive range of module options across many different subjects and interest areas. Students can transfer credit earned back to their home university.

During their time at Leeds, students get the chance to experience different cultures, improve language skills and broaden academic knowledge.

With a keen interest in the arts, Princess Kako has completed modules taught by the School of Performance and Cultural Industries, which have included performance design and stage management.

These studies have been complemented by elements of social psychology.

Stage@Leeds is one of the many locations the Princess has used as part of her studies. A public contemporary performance space, Stage@Leeds is dedicated to artist development and supporting new work.

The University of Leeds has one of the largest study abroad programmes in the UK.
