Teaming up with Royal Institution for Christmas Lectures

Date

Visit Nexus for an exclusive live screening of one of the Royal Institution’s Christmas Lectures.

Dating back to 1825, the Royal Institution's Christmas Lectures are the UK's flagship science series and are broadcast on national television every year.

The 2019 Lectures will be recorded on 12, 14 and 17 December at the Royal Institution and broadcast on BBC Four between Christmas and New Year.

This year, they are live streaming the recordings to a small number of venues around the UK, with Leeds being chosen as a venue for the second lecture in the series.

The hidden power of maths

Written and presented by mathematician and TV and radio personality Dr Hannah Fry, the lectures will reveal the ways in which maths, rules and patterns influence our daily lives.

Secrets and lies: the hidden power of maths will explore how miracles can be understood with probability, how big data dictates the trends we follow and how algorithms secretly influence our life choices.

The screening, at the University's innovation hub, Nexus, will feature family activities from 4.30pm, followed by the live broadcast itself at 6pm.

Tickets, priced £3, include a mince pie and a hot drink.

Visit the University online store to book.

The Science and Media Museum in Bradford is hosting the first lecture on Thursday 12 December. Tickets are available from the museum website.
