Cars are to be fitted with automatic speed limiters in a six-month scheme by Transport for London
Drivers of 20 cars, a London bus and licensed taxi will test the Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) technology which automatically stops a car from accelerating when it reaches the speed limit. ISA can easily be switched off in an emergency, and previous trials have shown it to be a very popular development.
RAC Foundation director Professor Stephen Glaister said: "A trial of ISA by Leeds University showed that about half of those involved would welcome the system being fitted permanently."
