About Us

We are a specialised research group within the Institute of Particle Science and Engineering (IPSE) at the University of Leeds, focusing on the fundamentals of Particle Technology, in particular on the development of relationships between microscopic and macroscopic properties and phenomena in the following areas:

Mechanical breakdown of particulate solids, encompassing attrition and comminution.
Electrical effects in bulk particulate systems, spraying and emulsion breakage.
Mechanics of particle motion, powder flowability and breakdown in fluidised beds.
Spray coating and new powder production technolologies by the use of supercritical CO2.
Pharmaceutical powder processing.
Aggregation and dispersion

The group has a number of state-of-the-art facilities and skills. Our activities are supported by the group members in a collaborative way so that we can support each other in addressing research programmes that require multi-skill contributions. This helps us to keep up-to-date with each other's activities, share the benefit of individual progress and address complex problems.

Dr Colin Hare and Mr Massih Pasha were nominated for the Young Researcher Award at the Particle Technology Forum on 5th April, held at The University of Loughborough. Colin won the 1 st prize and Massih won a runner-up prize.
