The School has been awarded funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) to run two collaborative PhDs with Opera North. The first began in October 2007 and explored Adaptation and Libretto. The second will start in autumn 2009 and will explore Opera as an Adaptation.

The School is also running a collaborative PhD with the National Coal Mining Museum for England, in Wakefield, with funding from the AHRC
