We offer a range of courses which will enable you to develop understanding of your specialism through the investigation of theory, and related practical exploration. The programmes aim to give you specific skills in your discipline, a firm understanding of the theoretical frameworks, and the ability to analyse and discuss your work. You will also develop generic skills; high level communication skills, creativity, team working, and problem solving. You will be equally well prepared for the creative marketplace or further academic or professional study.

The School of Performance and Cultural Industries is a dynamic community of researchers, teachers, practitioners and students which offers a unique combination of inter-related disciplines within a research-intensive university environment.

Since 2007 we have been based in a new £4 million, purpose-built facility at the heart of the Leeds campus: stage@leeds houses the University’s public licensed theatre, a dance studio and the experimental Alec Clegg studio – a teaching and research space.  Throughout the year, stage@leeds presents a diverse range of student work and performances from a wide variety of visiting professional theatre companies.
Other facilities in the School include a range of well-equipped studios for teaching and creating performance including; ‘black-box’ studio spaces with lighting control rooms; rehearsal studios; design studio with model lighting booth, props construction area and computer aided design suite; costume construction and wardrobe store; scenic construction workshop and technical stores; digital video-editing suites; sound recording studio and an enterprise and management suite. There is also a separate facility used exclusively by postgraduate student.

Lectures and seminars also take place in a range of specialist University spaces equipped for this purpose across the campus.

The main school offices are located in stage@leeds (Building number 31 on the University’s interactive map)
Additional studios can be found close by opposite the Leeds Student Union in the Clothworkers’ Building South (Building number 35) and also in the Michael Sadler Building (78 on the interactive map).

Once with us, you are supported 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year through a network of wardens and sub wardens throughout all of our privately run accommodation. See here for further information about all of the accommodation options available at the University of Leeds here
