A cool Christmas

There might have been no snow, but the Royal Society of Chemistry Christmas Lecture was a chilly experience! 400 pupils from schools across West Yorkshire gathered at the University in December to watch Paul Jarrett of BOC gases present a cool introduction to a selection of well known gases. Paul used nitrogen, carbon dioxide and helium at both room and cryogenic temperatures to wow the audience with a selection of weird and wonderful demonstrations including shrinking balloons and home-made fire extinguishers. Willing volunteers helped Paul sample lemonade that he made using just water and carbon dioxide, but the consensus was to stick with the traditional brands!

If you wish high resolution copies of any of these pictures of the event, please contact Tamasin Greenough Graham.
