Regulations for the Format and Presentation of Theses for Research Degrees
Introduction
These regulations are intended to cover theses submitted for examination for all research degrees. For other higher degrees where it is a requirement of the scheme of study that dissertations or reports be submitted in the prescribed form, advice should be sought from the School concerned about the examination arrangements.

The Thesis Format Regulations (pdf)
include advice and guidance on the following:
- » the content and layout of your thesis (including paper, font size, margins, pagination, referencing styles, illustrative materials, abbreviations);
- » the presentation of the title page and the IPR and copyright statements which must be included in your thesis;
- » thesis length requirements, and what to do if you think you might exceed these;
- » including work from any solely or jointly-authored publications in your thesis;
- » including a CD of supplementary material within your thesis;
- » binding requirements for both soft (temporary) bound and hard bound theses;
- » the process for submission of a thesis for oral examination and after successful examination;
- » advice on eThesis preparation and presentation;
- » advice on the presentation of a practice-led submission.

eThesis Regulations
Leeds began accepting E-thesis deposits from February 2010 (see Ethesis project for further information). The Format and Presentation Regulations for Research degrees have been updated to cover submission in both print only, and print and digital format, for those candidates who choose to deposit a copy of their final thesis with the University in PDF "E-thesis" format. Candidates are strongly advised to read the 'Guidance on Ethesis Preparation, Copyright and Publication'
alongside this document.
