Health and safety e-learning is a new way for you to access training without leaving your desk. In fact as long as you have internet access you can complete the training anywhere.
The training should only take you between 10 -20 minutes, but there is no time limit so you can do it at your own pace and when it’s convenient for you.
E-learning will not replace all training because some staff will require more comprehensive information, instruction and training. Instead it provides a simple, consistent foundation that can be built upon. Please contact your health and safety manager if you want information on the additional training that’s available.
Access the training here - you will need your ISS username
Each faculty has a health and safety manager and / or nominated people who will be able to help you.
If you need to leave the training before you have finished it, just log back in later and it will restart where you left off.
This is what you use to logon to Windows (not your password). It is usually between 5 and 8 letters long and made from your department name and your intials, e.g. 'musfj' would be School of Music (mus) and Fred Jones' initials (fj) 'musfj'. Your ISS Username can be found by looking up your name in the email address book. Click on your name and a 'Properties' window will appear. Your Username should be found under 'Alias'. If you can't find a username then please use your full email address instead.
On completion of the course you will be given the option to print off a certificate. If you cannot do this until later you need to contact your local health and safety co-ordinator.
The courses was designed to run on Internet Explorer. Others browsers such as FireFox or Opera sometimes create errors so it is best to use Explorer.
The courses are easy to follow. Just click through the slides answering any questions as you go, then there is a short, multiple choice test at the end.
A short test is the simplest way to check your understanding of the training.
The training programme will automatically send you back to the training session so you can have another look. Health and safety personnel will be able to help you if required and their contact details are available at the end of the test. You can redo the training and the test as many times as you like.
The University is committed to improving health and safety, and ensuring the wellbeing of all staff. Part of this involves ensuring all staff get training to help keep themselves and others safe.
The University is required to record that staff have received training, and these e-learning packages automatically provide a log of who has completed it, providing an auditable system.
No. There will be an automatic upload of the data to SAP as well as the e-learning record.
The initial modules were chosen as they will affect the majority of staff regardless of their role. This is only the start and many more will follow over the coming year.
We encourage you to use the training programme at a time and location that best suits you. However the system is programmed to send out reminders to people who have not completed the training module (such as fire safety) after a set time period.
Once you have completed the training and the multiple choice questions successfully, the system should recognise this and not send you any more reminders. You will then only receive a further invitation / reminder when refresher training is due (in a couple of years time).
