Responsibility: The responsible person (Head of School or Service) retains overall responsibility.

C1 - Governance
>> Ensure effective governance on fire safety issues

>> Allocate resources in terms of time and money for the heads of schools and services, safety supervisors and fire wardens to carry out their tasks

 


 
C2 - Health and safety management
Schools or services are responsible for fire safety management in their areas including:

>> Providing adequate time and resources to effectively manage fire safety in the school or service
>> Releasing staff to attend and provide fire safety training.
>> Appointing sufficient numbers of fire wardens to adequately cover all areas of responsibility and allocating adequate time for them to discharge their duties and monitor they are fulfilling their duties.
>> Ensuring all staff and postgraduates are aware of the fire safety standards
Note; responsibility cannot be devolved.
   
C3 - Employees, research staff and students

C4 - Procedures, information and training
Fire Wardens are to be trained in parts A, B and C (refresher 3 yearly) delivered by fire safety managers.

C10 - Provision of equipment and maintenance
General, programmed and emergency maintenance of fire detection, fire doors, alarms and fire-fighting equipment to be undertaken by estate services. Estate services
