Privacy statement

1. Purpose of this statement
This statement tells you how the University will collect and process your personal data when you access this website.

2. Automated collection of personal information
As with most other web servers, when you access these web pages certain information you provide will automatically be recorded by the University. This will include your IP address, browser type, and information relating to the page you last visited. This information is processed to estimate how much usage of the server is made by different categories of users and in the event of a breach of security may be used to aid detection.

3. Non-automated collection
Where you are required under this website to provide personal data this data will be used for the following purposes:

  • Responding to feedback and comments on this website and services - feedback may be submitted anonymously.
  • Responding to queries and requests for information submitted via the website.
  • Recording of personal data to enable the university to fulfil its obligations under health and safety legislation - e.g. applications for work permits, reporting of accidents and incidents.
  • Collection of data from forms and questionnaires to enable statistical analysis - where the collection of personal information is necessary this will be kept in strict confidence and the results of any analysis will be reported anonymously and will not be attributable to any person.
  • The collection and processing of personal data collected by via this website will comply fully with the legal requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 and with the university's code of practice on data protection.
  • Complywise – online health and safety training system. Personal data is used to recognise and enable individuals’ access to the health and safety training facility, record this through SAP into training databases and waiting lists when requested. 
  • Sentinel – online accident reporting system. Personal data provided on accident / incident report forms will be forwarded to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) only as far as is required to fulfil the university's legal obligations when it is necessary to report incidents under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR).

4. Third Party Access
Your personal data will be forwarded to the following third parties in connection with the purposes outlined under 2 and 3 above. Within the University your personal data will remain confidential, accessible only by those who have a legitimate need to know within the University.

5. Cookies
This website uses cookies. Cookies set by our website can be read by our web server and may contain information you have provided to us for use in connection with the purposes outlined under 2 and 3 above. Cookies may be used in some e-learning packages on this site to enable the user to track their progress and assessment scores between sessions.

6. Google Analytics
This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google").  Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States . Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage.  Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.  You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.  By using this website, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

This statement and therefore the ways in which your data may be processed can be changed from time to time. Any changes will only be notified via this web page.
