The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Health and Safety 2011
The prize-giving ceremony for the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Health and Safety 2011 was held on Wednesday 18th January 2012 the anniversary of the signing of the ‘Revitalising Health and Safety’ agreement with the campus trade unions).
The awards were open to all staff members and honoured inspiration, innovation and leadership by recognising and celebrating best health and safety practice.
The ceremony saw the presentation of five new awards, headlined by the coveted ‘Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Health and Safety’ - personally selected as the most inspiring entry by the Vice-Chancellor himself.
In addition there were awards for four new categories: Unsung hero, Leader, Team and Official or voluntary health and safety practitioner, as well as certificates for ‘Beacons of Good Practice’ (entries which were seen as particularly transferable across campus).
The Vice-Chancellor could not attend the actual ceremony as he was called to a crucial ministerial meeting in London, but he pre-recorded his speeches especially for the audience. On the day, Deputy Vice-Chancellor John Fisher ably represented him to give out the prizes.
The nomination period for the 2012 awards opens in September 2012 – look out for details closer to the time or ask your Health and Safety Manager for more information.
We may in future run presentations on some of the winners/ Beacons of Good Practice – if you would like details of these please email safety@leeds.ac.uk setting out your interest.
