  Institution description
  • The Department of Geodynamics and Geophysics (DGG) belongs to the University of Barcelona (UB) which is a public organisation depending on the Generalitat de Catalunya. It is an interfaculty department (Geology and Physics).
  • The main objectives are the teaching of geodynamics, physics and geophysics. The staff of the department consists of 25 permanent and non permanent professors and lecturers (geologists and physicists) plus 4 technicians and 25 PhD students and collaborators. The department is devoted to research related to geodynamics and earth solid geophysics.
  • The DGG-allaus group was created in 1986 with the purpose of avalanche mapping, avalanche forecast (in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Catalonia) and studying the snow drifting. At present the DGG-allaus group is included in the Research Group on Natural Hazards (RISKNAT) of the University of Barcelona. The main interests of the group are the study of surficial geological processes that produce environmental impact, among them the snow avalanches.
  • The DGG-allaus group consists of 3 permanent researchers, 1 contract researcher and 1 PhD. student. The current activities are the avalanche mapping for hazard purposes and the study of avalanche dynamics by means of observational measurements (seismic, nivo-meteorological properties.). 5 PhD theses were defended into the DGG-allaus group and 1 are in the process of elaboration.The DGG-allaus group is formed by 2 permanent researchers, 1 contract and 2 PhD. students.
