  • Carl B. Harbitz, born 5 October 1962, Norwegian, is a Project Engineer in Section for Environment and Avalanches, Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) since 1995.
  • MSc in fluid mechanics, University of Oslo, 1988; PhD in fluid mechanics, University of Oslo, 1992.
  • Dr. Harbitz has a background in research and consulting projects in fluid dynamics. His main areas of expertise are submarine slides, subaerial landslides and snow avalanches as well as wave mechanics and slide generated surface waves (tsunamis), including numerical analysis and computer programming.
  • He has previously been participant/co-ordinator in four EU programs (GITEC I & II, ENAM II, SAME, and CADZIE). Dr. Harbitz is author or co-author of seven refereed papers to professional journals and conferences, as well as about twenty NGI-reports on rock slide, debris flow and avalanche motion.
