The first time I arrived at the University of Leeds campus, I was deeply impressed by the mixed style of modern and historical buildings. At the time, I couldnt imagine that it would be my home for one month! I was so excited to explore the University and meet new friends.
My two modules were The English Country House: A Social History and Entrepreneurship and Society: Ideas, Opportunities and Value Creation. They were totally different but both interesting, thanks to our lovely teachers. As part of The English Country House classes, our module leader took us to three country houses to learn about their history.
All of them were amazing and I couldnt have imagined their luxury without seeing them for myself. During the Entrepreneurship class, I learned a lot about business and treasured the teamwork experience. The most unforgettable field trip was a treasure hunt around Halifax. The members of our group were all competitive and worked together. No matter what the result, we all enjoyed the time we ran along the street and read the clues.
Outside of my classes, I have had enough free time to explore Leeds. I have fallen in love with this city because of its museums, galleries and the people. I met some wonderful staff at Leeds City Museum who presented most of the exhibition to me in detail. I have also visited the gallery to see the excellent oil paintings. One thing that did surprise me is the activities designed for children. Even I wanted to play!
There are also lots of amazing restaurants here in Leeds.
The LISS programme includes lots of interesting activities, such as the field trips and social events. One of my favourite social activities was the Ball Games evening in Hyde Park. I never imagined that I would do outdoor exercise for almost three hours. We played basketball and rounders, which was a real challenge for me. Our social assistants were all talented at sports, and I have learned a lot from them.
For any students considering applying to LISS, I really recommend that you grab this chance to experience a brand new country and culture. This summer has been wonderful and unforgettable!
