Since an agreement was signed between Santander Universities and the University of Leeds in 2007 the University has awarded more than £1m directly to students. The funds are distributed through a range of initiatives which come under three key priority areas:  scholarship, mobility and enterprise.

Following a renewal of the agreement in 2014 Santander has committed a further £375,000 over three years to support our students’ experience.

Salamanca summer school

The University offers 19 fully funded places for Leeds undergraduate students to attend an intensive Spanish language summer school in the city of Salamanca. Students who are undertaking a year abroad in a Spanish speaking country but do not speak Spanish particularly benefit from this project.

Leeds international summer school

Scholarships are available to support students from Santander network countries attending the Leeds international summer school. This programme enables students to combine academic learning with a cultural programme of activities.

Cambodia international volunteering

Leeds University Union runs a two-month volunteering project helping support the development of a rural school in Cambodia. Ten volunteers receive awards of £500 to support the costs of the project. For further information contact RAG

The intercultural ambassadors programme

The programme enables UK and international students to volunteer as ambassadors to increase their understanding of other cultures. They can get to know other students from all over the world and gain experience of teamwork, project development and activity management. The programme encourages positive interaction between UK and international students, enabling more students to benefit from being part of a multicultural campus community.

The Leeds internship programme

The internship programme is exclusive to University of Leeds students and graduates. For undergraduates, we offer summer internships and there are autumn internships available to recent graduates. Santander Universities provides 50% funding to pay students and recent graduates to undertake internships with local small to medium-sized enterprises. The remaining 50% is provided by the companies that host the interns.

Proof of concept awards

Proof of concept awards are available through our business start-up service Spark, to help students to bring their business ideas to reality. They help students to access expertise and support and gain confidence to turn their promising ideas into fledgling businesses.

Entrepreneurship awards

Enterprising undergraduates and graduates in the UK are invited to enter Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Awards. Previous winners have already launched their ventures with great success. The awards aim to support and encourage university students to pursue their business ideas and are open to students from all participating UK universities currently partnering with Santander Universities.
