We are one of the UK's leading centres for international-quality languages and cultures research, scholarship and teaching.

You can study programmes from across an exceptional range of subjects. Our teaching excellence is shown by the high levels of satisfaction our students report in the National Student Survey, and by the Student Academic Experience Review in December 2008, which commended our academic standards, wide range of research-led modules, and the strong commitment of staff and students to the work of the School.

Our researchers are working at the very forefront of their disciplines, as indicated by the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise results, with particularly strong results in Italian and German (both 2nd place nationally), Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies and French (both 4th nationally), as well as Translation Studies (included with Computer Science), which achieved the joint highest quality rating in the University.
