By the end of the course, delegates should be able to:

discuss the necessity of a priori sample size calculations
explain the concepts of Type 1 and 2 errors and statistical power
illustrate the relationships between sample size, power, significance level and standard deviation
perform sample size calculations for simple situations
formulate extension from simple to more complex situations
write an appropriate summary detailing a sample size calculation
