Third party disclosure - sharing your information with others
Bills for your accommodation fees must be sent to you (the student). This is because the contract with the University is in your name. Bills cannot be sent by the University to a third party (i.e. parent/relative/sponsor). However, you can forward the e-bills to the payer yourself. Tuition bills will also be sent directly to the student, except for sponsored students whereby the initial bill is sent directly to the sponsor.
You can choose to disclose your information by giving someone your PIN. Without the PIN we will not disclose your information, even to your parent/next of kin.
What is my PIN?
All students are issued with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) by the University. This will be sent to your University of Leeds e-mail address after you have completed online registration in your first year. If you wish for a third party (i.e. parent/relative) to be able to obtain information about your account via the internet or telephone, they will need to provide us with your PIN and Student ID Number. This is the only way the University can confirm that we have your permission to provide information to a third party, and it is at your discretion who you disclose your PIN to.
How do I view/change my PIN?
Notification of your PIN will be sent to your University email account; you can also access this information via Student Services in The Portal (go to the Student Services & Admin tab then choose the link on the left to Log me into Student Services).. If you are a new student, details of how to access your University email account will be provided as part of your induction.
Can a third party make a payment on my behalf without knowing my PIN?
Yes, however they will need to know your Name, Student ID Number, Date of Birth and the amount they wish to pay.
Can a third party view a summary of my account without my PIN?
No, this information is only available with a PIN.
Can a third party set up an instalment plan on my behalf without knowing my PIN?
Yes if the online instalment system is available, however they will need to know your Name, Student ID Number and Date of Birth.
How can I pay if I choose not to use the online payment facility?
Alternative payment methods are shown below:
- Cheque made payable to " University of Leeds" (quoting name and student number on the reverse) and send to: SSC - Accounts Receivable, University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT
- In Person at cash office (SSC, Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building)
- Telephone credit/debit card payment or telephone number 0113 3436054
- Bank Transfer Barclays Bank Plc, 77 Albion Street, Leeds, LS1 5LD
