Welcome to the Workshop Theatre

The Workshop Theatre
The Workshop Theatre is home to the academic study of Theatre Studies in the
School of English at the University of Leeds.
Its MA in Theatre Making (formerly the MA in Theatre Studies) is the longest established postgraduate programme of
its kind in Great Britain, and has traditionally approached the study of drama
and theatre in a practical and multi-cultural context. It currently also runs an
MA in Theatre and Development Studies. Its undergraduate Single Honours in English
and Theatre Studies degree programme combines the disciplines of practical
exploration and a theoretical approach to the stage with the study of English
literature and language. The Workshop Theatre also supervises research students
to doctoral level. Opportunities are provided for all the different student
communities to work for and with each other in a range of theatre-making activities.
The WT is an active member of SCUDD (The Standing
Conference of University Drama Departments) and its staff are active in
TaPRA (The Theatre and Performance Research Association)
The Workshop Theatre co-hosted the TaPRA conference in September 2008
Recent theatre studies graduates 'Aireborne Theatre'
have had yet more success at the Edinburgh fringe 2009 with their new show 'Splinters of Light' following on from last year and 'Jumping and Other Thoughts'.
Excellent reviews from the Scotsman and Three Weeks amongst others were also handed out to 'Poets' Corner' and 'The Play About Charlotte', both productions with strong WT / theatre studies connections.
