Timetabling at the University of Leeds
Whether you are new to timetabling or already work in timetabling in your school, you should find the links and documents here helpful in finding out how timetabling works within the university.
The University timetable is put together using software called "Syllabus Plus". To arrange for training and a user name please contact the Timetabling and Room Bookings office (ext 34009 or email timetable@leeds.ac.uk). If Syllabus Plus is not already installed on your PC (check under "Programs" on the Start menu of your PC), contact the ISS Helpdesk to request installation. Syllabus Plus training materials are also available in the downloads section of this site.
The timetable is compiled between February and September for the following academic year. When the timetable is complete, each activity that is scheduled to occur will appear on the online timetable, displaying details of the member of staff, allocated location, and weeks in which it is due to take place. As part of compiling the timetable, all students will be allocated to the teaching activities they must attend; this allows each student to view their own personalised timetable online.
When you require centrally owned space for your teaching activities, you will be asked to specify the facilities that are required for each activity, and rooms are then allocated by Timetabling and Room Bookings. The locations database contains photos and information about the centrally-managed rooms. You can also see the location of buildings on a campus map.
The majority of communications relating to timetabling, including database rebuilds, will come via email. Therefore, please use the following link to add yourself to the timetable mailing list: http://lists.leeds.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/timetable
Views of timetables for timetablers
There are two views of timetables for timetablers - by module or programme.
The 'detailed' view contains information more relevant to timetablers (e.g. activity names in the grid view; switch to list view from within the grid timetable to get full information - staff, same time activities, tags, etc).
The 'room checking (list only)' view contains less information and is used specifically for checking room allocations
