Bike Buddying

Bike Buddying is open to all staff and students at University of Leeds, Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds Trinity University College and Leeds Teaching Hospital. It aims to link together experienced cyclists with less confident cyclists to offer support during the ride from home to campus/work.

Bike buddies are confident cyclists who have cycled in Leeds for sometime and volunteer to ride with a less confident cyclist or someone who wants some company on their commute. Bike Buddies help with route finding and confidence building; they are NOT there teach people to ride a bicycle.

If you are not confident yet to ride a bicycle on the roads or are still learning to ride a bicycle, please contact us about doing some cycling skills training which will help you before you register for bike buddying.

Bike Buddying is for you if:

  • You are cycling already on roads but are lacking some confidence / need some extra support
  • You are unsure which route to take to get from home to work/campus
  • You want some company on your commute either for social reasons or because you'll feel safer

Volunteer Bike Buddies (experienced cyclists) should:

  • Have experience of cycling – specifically to and from campus/work
  • Have knowledge of possible routes
  • Be willing to support a less confident cyclist on their journey

If you would like a bike buddying or if you would like to volunteer to be a bike buddy please fill in the appropriate downloadable form and email the completed form to: transport@leeds.ac.uk or come to the bike hub on Tuesdays -Thursdays 12-4pm.
