For Staff: Embed from YouTube
*NEW* to Blackboard 9.1 is the embed tool, allowing you to search for and add content from Flickr, Slideshare and YouTube to your modules/organisations.

There may be copyright issues affecting the use of content hosted on YouTube which you should consider before embedding videos in the VLE. Read the copyright guide for further information.
Embed YouTube Video
- From the module/organisation menu navigate to the appropriate content area; Learning Resources has been used for this example.
- Ensure that Edit Mode is switched ON from the top right of the screen, if it isn’t already.
- Select the Add Content action link and click YouTube Video.

Search and Select
Select one of the search options from the list (All of the words, At least one of the words, Without the words or Exact phrase) and enter your terms into the search box then click Go.

Link to VLE Service student guides
You can link to VLE Service video guides that are hosted on YouTube, they can be found by entering the terms "vleservice leeds" using All of the words as the search option. Our videos are best viewed in full screen mode, see the Watch and Edit section of this guide for more information.
At present only a limited number of our videos are hosted on YouTube, we will be adding more in the coming months.

You will be presented with a list of search results. Preview can be used to check that you are embedding the correct video. When you have found the video you want to add click Select.
Options

- Name - This field is automatically populated with the video name, but you can change this to something more relevant if you wish.
- Colour of Name - You can use the picker to alter the text colour.
- Description - You can enter any optional descriptive text.
- View - You can choose from the default Thumbnail, Text Link with Player and Embed.*
- Show YouTube URL - Display a hyperlink to the video.
- Show YouTube Information - This includes the video duration, the uploaders username and date published.

*Warning
Do select the Embed option if you are using Internet Explorer, see the known issues document (requires log-in) for more information.
- Attach local file - You can add a file by clicking Browse My Computer or Browse Content Collection.
- Permit Users to View this Content - You can make the content available immediately, or select No if you wish to work on the item and release it at a later date.
- Track Number of Views - This records who and when the item was accessed.
- Select Date and Time Restrictions - You can display the item after and until a specific time and date.
Click Submit to embed the video.

Note
This example is based on you adding the video using the default Thumbnail option. The viewing method will differ depending on which display option you select.
Click Watch Video to open the player window, then select the play button to start the video.

You can also use Blackboard's own controls by selecting Player Controls above the video at the top left of the player window.

Some videos are best viewed in full screen, this can be done by clicking the full screen icon

To close the player window click X at the top right.
Edit
Once you have embedded the video it isn't possible to change the display options, if you want to do this you will need to embed it again.
You can still change the name, add a file or restrict who has access to it by selecting the action linkto the right of its name then click Edit. When you have made your changes click Submit to confirm.
