Constitution
- There shall be a Centre for World Cinemas.
- The Centre for World Cinemas shall be a constituent Research Centre of the Faculty of Arts.
- The Centre shall consist of all members of staff appointed thereto as approved by the Standing Committee of the Faculty of Arts.
- The Centre's aims shall be:
- to foster an understanding of the concept of World Cinemas as inclusive and democratic, favouring a polycentric approach that cuts across film history according to waves of relevant films and movements, thus creating flexible geographies;
- to become a centre for the production of original film theory;
- to establish an international centre of excellence for research and teaching in World Cinemas;
- to foster the development of collaborative research in film studies within the Faculty and the University, nationally and internationally, and to generate external funding for such activities;
- to attract research postgraduate students;
- to review and develop taught postgraduate programmes in the field

- There shall be a Director of the Centre nominated by the Faculty of Arts Standing Committee.
- The responsibilities of the Director shall be:
- to develop an active research programme in World Cinemas, including provision of supervision for postgraduate research students;
- to develop leading-edge research projects;
- to formulate bids, both individual and collaborative, for external research funding;
- to promote the integration of World Cinemas research with other research interests within and outside the Faculty;
- to oversee the control, assurance and enhancement of the quality of the Faculty's teaching programme in World Cinemas;
- to lead the planning and development of new programmes and modules relating to the School's teaching programme in World Cinemas;
- to represent the Faculty through appropriate organisations in the wider world of film studies, at national and international level;
- to represent World Cinemas at Leeds in the non-academic world .
