International funding

Global Research Development Team

Overview

The Global Research Development Team promotes the development of international, global-challenge led, research collaborations. This includes: scaling up in size and complexity; incorporating new disciplinary perspectives into an existing collaboration; incorporating new countries and collaborators into a research initiative. We also support global institutional partnerships where these are driven by research and innovation priorities.

Funding

Our team has regional expertise in Asia, the Americas, and sub-Saharan Africa. We provide bespoke advice on applications to ODA funding streams and to US Federal funding sources. In Asia, we support activities to enhance strategic research partnerships and networks with local world-leading research institutes, and scan international funding opportunities to support regional R&I initiatives.

Networks and global mobility

The University is a member of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) and a number of Anglo-Sino networks. We support international mobility through the Cheney Fellowship Scheme, which supports outstanding overseas researchers to conduct research at Leeds. The team also administers pump-priming funds for academics who intend to go on to apply for external awards.
