Get hired: Graduate job hunting masterclass

Thursday 8 September, 12.30–1.30pm

The graduate job market has witnessed an incredible comeback post-COVID-19 as graduate employers scramble for the best graduates. But how do you stand out as the best hire in this increasingly competitive environment?

Danielle Buckland (Philosophy and Politics 2009), Managing Recruitment Consultant at the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, was once in the same position you are in now and will be sharing her key tips to help you progress in your career, wherever it is that you want to go.

Over her career, Danielle has conducted thousands of graduate interviews and screened countless graduate CVs. As well as talking about her experiences as a recent graduate and how she got into her role, in this webinar she will also give clear, actionable take-aways on:

  • Where to look for jobs and what the in-demand skills are that employers are looking for at the moment
  • What graduates can do to stand out
  • Direct entry roles vs graduate schemes and how to decide what’s best for you
  • Whether you'd suit a remote job or an in person role better and how to look for these accordingly

Finding your feet after graduation

Friday 16 September, 12.30–1.30pm

Many people come out of university feeling like they’ve got little idea about what they want to do. Not only is this common and not a problem, it can even be a good thing.

In this webinar, Leeds graduate Catriona Pitkethly (French and Management 2004), who works as an Executive Coach and people professional, will talk about:

  • Getting to know yourself and how discovering your strengths, weaknesses and passions can help you to discover routes that might suit you
  • How to identify the skills you might need to get you into your preferred job and where you can acquire them
  • Learning from setbacks and mistakes that will be inevitable along the way and using these to improve and grow
  • Coming out of the structured life provided by university and creating your own path to success, whatever that looks like for you!

Additional information

These events are open to Leeds graduates and final year students graduating in 2023.

If you’re an international graduate interested in attending this event, we’re confident that you’ll find the session useful and a lot of the advice will be relevant to you. Please note however that while Danielle and Catriona will speak briefly about advice they have for international graduates, including how to stand out as an international applicant in the UK, we will not be able to cover matters relating to international graduates at length or answer any specific visa-related questions. For more detailed information on working in the UK as an international student or graduate, take a look at our Staying in the UK page.

These webinars will be recorded and shared with everyone who has registered for the events after the sessions have taken place.
