Postgraduate Alumni Workshop & Networking Event

This workshop brings together current PGRs with academics who studied at Leeds & alumni who have gone on to jobs beyond academia – showcasing postgraduate History & the breadth of careers it leads to.

Date: 15-04-2016
Time: 09:45 - 17:30

Sponsored by the LEAP Skills Hub and the School of History & IMS, this daylong event will bring together current postgraduate research students with early career researchers and established academics from elsewhere who also studied at Leeds, as well as with alumni who have gone on to a range of different jobs inside and outside academia. In doing so, it will showcase history at the University of Leeds and the breadth of careers it leads to, while promoting the professional development of PGRs and ECRs.

The workshop will feature panels on ‘Academic Job Applications & Interviews’, ‘Post-docs, Second Projects, & Thinking Beyond Your Thesis’, ‘Book Publishing’ and ‘Developing Impact’, as well as sessions on ‘Alternatives to Academia’ that explore how to use the transferable skills gained from postgraduate study in a range of other fields. Speakers will include academics from universities across the UK, high school teachers and third sector workers, and curators, librarians and archivists from the British Library, the Royal Astronomical Society and Leeds Museums & Galleries.
