About the event

Our “Inspiring Innovation Seminars” will showcase real-life examples of the innovation journeys taken by other researchers or external speakers.

This will provide valuable insights into the steps taken to move a new idea or discovery arising from basic research through to implementation in a real-world setting for economic and/or societal benefit.

It will also give you the opportunity to meet and network with a range of innovation active researchers and external speakers.

For our launch event, Professor John Terry will deliver a seminar entitled: “From blackboard to bedside: The role of dynamic network models in epilepsy diagnosis and prognosis”


“In this talk I will take you on a journey from scribbled networks on a blackboard in 2011 to the Nature SpinOff final in 2021. I will first introduce mathematical models we developed to understand the fundamental network mechanisms of seizures. From there I will describe approaches to uncover evidence of network alterations in the background EEG activity of people with epilepsy.

Building on this understanding, I will introduce our patented BioEP seizure risk marker and talk through the business development activities we undertook that culminated in establishing Neuronostics in 2018 and how we grew the company over the next three years. I will highlight both successes and failures and reflect on lessons learned.”
