Pixels Ensemble is a versatile chamber music group with a shared passion for performing the finest repertoire, from the classical period to the present day.
Fairy Tales and Folk Songs:
- Robert Schumann – Märchenbilder (Fairy Tales) op 113, for viola and piano
- Martin Iddon – Limnades, for viola, marimba and piano
- Luciano Berio – Naturale (on Sicilian folk songs) for viola, percussion and tape
Ivor Novello-winning composer Martin Iddon’s limnades was written for Pixels Ensemble’s appearance in the University of Liverpool’s 2015 Open Circuit Festival and here is performed in a new instrumentation. Robert Schumann’s set of evocative Fairy Tales unleashes the narrative power of the viola; and in Luciano Berio’s Naturale viola and percussion combine to reflect and commentate on the composer’s recording of authentic Sicilian folk song.
