The Women at Leeds Network (WALN) is hosting a workshop event bringing together three speakers who will share their experiences of the emotional labour of research.
The research process can exact an emotional toll. Grant writing is time-consuming and success uncertain, whilst delivering research outputs (in whatever shape or form) can trigger a range of emotions, from excitement and happiness to resentment and dread.
‘Doing’ research requires emotional, intellectual and creative labour, and workplaces are rarely set up to accommodate the kinds of vulnerabilities this can expose.
This workshop brings together three speakers who share their experiences of the emotional labour of research. Foregoing ‘solutions’ and ‘toolkits’, it aims to create a space where the often ‘hidden’ elements of the research journey can be recognised in an authentic and supportive way and build a sense of connection amongst participants.
The workshop will be led by Professor Melanie Bell (chair) with guest panellists Professor Abigail Harrison-Moore and Professor Joslin McKinney.
Please register your interest on Eventbrite.
