Fantastic week of health and wellbeing
This year’s Staff Healthy Week has been another fantastic success!
The week went out in style with Body Jam and Zumba at the Refectory
With a new focus around the five ways of wellbeing, this years event included 107 hours of both physical and non-physical activity over five days with 1,326 people taking part.
Greg Hull, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator, said: I would like to express my gratitude and thanks to all the staff that engaged with, and supported, Staff Healthy Week 2019; there were times when I was staggered by the sheer demand and enthusiasm for the activities. Yet again our staff really made it happen!
Also, the Healthy Week team deserves a big thank you for all its hard work to make this year a success the changes we have made, such as following the five ways to wellbeing and introducing new fresh content, including the use of the Edge pool and e-bike tasters, highlight the fantastic services and facilities we have at Leeds.

Our Healthy Week Heroes did a fantastic job of encouraging colleagues to get involved and consider their own health and wellbeing.
A total of 165 members of staff joined up to be a Healthy Week Hero or Wellbeing Wizard and encouraged their colleagues to take part, either by promoting the centralised timetable or by running their own events.
The Sustainability Team ran their own wellbeing session involving clay modelling
Samantha Ehlers and her colleagues from the Marketing team also ran their own activities including a water challenge throughout the week and a book exchange with 25 people involved, as well as a wellbeing lunch, which have both become permanent activities.
Greg added: The real icing on the cake for me, though, was the continued engagement of the Healthy Week Heroes, who are driving behavior change in their areas.
It is this group of pro-active staff that we want to put at the centre of our sustainable long-term aim to create a wellbeing staff network, which will champion staff health and wellbeing all year round.

Beyond the week
Despite Healthy Week being over, there are still many activities you can get involved in on campus:
- visit The Edge for a swim or sign up to one of their learn to courses;
- the Chaplaincy, the Sustainability Garden and LUU Roof Garden is open regularly for people to go to relax in a quiet space; and
- take a look at the Get Out, Get Active programme, which has casual lunchtime runs, yoga, weekend trips and lots more
