How has electricity been depicted?

In the previous stage of this tutorial you explored the diverse late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century depictions of electricity as a female form, as shown in the examples below:

However, not everyone who gave electricity a physical form during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries chose to depict it in such a way. In what follows you will explore what difference gender makes to the ideas and messages that are conveyed in personifications of electricity.
