We have two semesters that are taught over three terms. For September, orientation will begin two weeks before the start of teaching. For January, orientation will begin the week before teaching starts. You can find examination dates on the academic calendar and see when you receive your transcript on the exams and transcripts page.
You must apply for accommodation directly with the accommodation office and meet their application deadlines:
- September arrival: apply by 1 July
- January arrival: apply by 1 December
If you will be studying at Leeds for Semester 1 only, you will be offered an accommodation contract that finishes during the middle of the January exam period. When the exam timetable has been published, you can contact the accommodation office to apply to extend your contract if you need to include any additional time up until the end of the semester.
If you will be studying at Leeds for Semester 2 only, you will be arriving during our semester one examination period. This means that you may not be able to move into your room straight away. If this is the case, you will be offered temporary accommodation when you first arrive while your room is prepared.
Were also taking measures to ensure you feel safe and confident about staying in our accommodation and were sure youll soon feel at home.
Were introducing a staggered and contactless arrivals process, as well as effective social distancing measures, so youll be able to meet new people and socialise in a safe way. All our residences will be cleaned more regularly and hand sanitiser will be provided for you to use.
Our experienced accommodation team will also be available to help you, offering advice and support to keep you safe and well.

Immigration and visa advice
It is important that you think about immigration before you make any travel plans. Learn more about Visas for study abroad, exchange and summer school .
Preparing to study with us
We recommend you look at the Prepare for Success website to help familiarise yourself with the UK education system, which may be different from what you are used to at your home university.
Our skills@library workshops and resources can help you develop academic skills while you are studying with us.
Your student experience
Teaching activities with large numbers of students will go ahead using digital technology and will be interactive and engaging. Teaching in small-group settings, including seminars, tutorials and practicals, will be delivered face to face on campus wherever it can be done safely, in line with the UK government guidance on social distancing in place at the time.
Nearer the start of term, well let you know more about the balance of on-campus and online teaching for your course and the support available to help you get the most out of your University of Leeds experience. Well continue to review our plans regularly and implement any changes, in line with government guidance, as quickly as possible. Be assured, if you can't travel to campus immediately, youll have remote access to all the support services and teaching resources you need for your studies.
We understand that getting to know the University, meeting new people and moving into your accommodation are all important to help you settle in. Welcome and arrival preparations for September are already underway to give you the best student experience possible. Were busy working with our students union, Leeds University Union, to develop a series of activities and events, both on campus and online, so you can be sure of a warm and friendly welcome.
You should register online before you arrive in Leeds. This is a separate process to module enrolment. We will send you details of how to register about a month before you arrive in Leeds. Registration is a two step process:
- Complete the online registration steps
- Have your identity checked once you arrive in Leeds.
Once you have completed both of these steps, you can collect your student ID card. View general information about registration.
When you arrive you will need to attend a 'Study Abroad, Exchange and Erasmus+ Orientation Meeting' and a 'Parent School Welcome Meeting'. We will email you before you arrive with further information about specific dates and times of the orientation activities.
For students starting in January 2021, we recommend that you arrive on 21 January.
