The world’s cities are home to more than 50% of the population and they are growing rapidly. If we can shape the future of cities, we can help to address multiple challenges in areas such as food, energy, water, health, climate, transport, housing, finance and infrastructure provision. Our cities research works towards creating socially, environmentally and economically sustainable cities and to avoid a divided and unstable urban future.

We have an active research portfolio of more than £35m, working at local, national and global scales (particularly the global south).  We work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders including the local and national public sector, community groups, non-governmental organisations, private sector and other research institutions.

Cities researchers come from across the University and have interests in urban interdisciplinary research, providing a unique combination of deep expertise across a wide range of disciplines.

If you would like to work with us on any of our research areas, or have any other cities-related research needs, please contact us.
