Inspired by the work of John Smeaton, based on an original idea from the East Leeds Project — Moon Palace is a stunning artwork and mobile observatory by Heather Peak and Ivan Morison.
A gift from East Leeds to the world, Moon Palace is your ticket to the stars without leaving the city.
Drop into this daytime observation session opposite Leeds University Union for an other-worldly experience, combining daytime solar and radio astronomy. Spend time chatting with the hosts or browse the onboard library over a cup of ‘cosmic’ tea!
This experience is suitable for all ages.
About the project
Moon Palace is an East Leeds Project and LEEDS 2023 co-production, commissioned by Foxglove and LEEDS 2023 for Smeaton300.
Smeaton300 is a national creative programme that takes inspiration from the ground-breaking work of the UK’s first civil engineer, curating a series of engaging events for the public.
The University of Leeds has partnered with Smeaton300, and will be celebrating the centenary of Smeaton’s achievements through a series of cultural events across campus in 2024.
