Obituary: Mr Ray Vertigans
Colleagues will be very sorry to learn of the death, on 17 November 2003, of Mr Ray Vertigans.
Having acquired extensive experience in a variety of posts in electrical engineering within both the public and private sectors, Mr Vertigans joined the University in 1970. He was appointed to a post of Technician in the Department of Metallurgy, within the Houldsworth School of Applied Science, where his considerable expertise ensured that he was entrusted with a rapidly growing portfolio of responsibilities. As well as being the senior technician in charge of the Physics and Crystallography Laboratories, he was responsible for the development, operation and maintenance of a range of other highly sophisticated electronic equipment. He also instructed students in the safe use of such equipment. Mr Vertigans retired from his post in June 1987.
The funeral is to be held at Lawnswood Crematorium, at 2.20pm on Tuesday, 25 November 2003. On the day of the funeral, the flag on the Parkinson Building will be flown at half-mast in tribute.
